although
beautiful on its own, is tightly closed to protect itself from the
world around it. The beauty of the rosebud is but a mere glimpse of
what lies within. With proper care and nurturing and time, this bud
grows and blossoms into a full open rose, proudly displaying itself
to the world and raising it's petals to the sky, rejoicing in the
sun and rain and wind the petals were never before allowed to feel.
That same rosebud, without love and nurturing, withers in its place
on the vine.
But blossoming also takes time. As victims of abuse,
we are like a tightly closed rosebud - so much more beauty that we
can ever imagine lies within us, but it's remains unseen, lying
deeply dormant, as we protect it with our various defense mechanisms
that we've developed during our abuse - protected by our sheer will
to survive.
Our recovery, perhaps initiated by the
realization that we have been abused or the knowledge that life that
can - and should - be more, is the long road toward blossoming, the
transformation from this tightly closed rosebud to a beautiful open
bloom. It is often a long and painstaking process, but when allowed
the time to grow and change at our own rate and in the ways that we
need, a beautiful full bloom, open and confident and proud, will be
where the bud, full of fear, uncertainty, and sadness, once was.
My hope is that this website will serve as a little
extra water, sunshine, support, and love to help each Survivor along
toward full bloom.
